Residents Information and Road Closure Timings

We are working closely with Crawley Borough Council and West Sussex County Council to bring this popular new mass participation running event to Crawley, helping to get people active and healthy, boosting local tourism and supporting many local charities. You can find resident information and road closures for event day below.

How Run Gatwick Affects Residents

Safety is our number one priority, and to ensure our runners and spectators are safe during the event, we will be closing some local roads for a brief time on race day which may affect you in some way. The approved route comes up from Crawley along the A23 London Road to Lowfield Heath, proceeding along the airport perimeter Charlwood Road to Charlwood village before proceeding back along Ifield Road towards Rusper and Ifield direction back into Crawley Town Centre.

What This Means For You

We want to make sure there is as little inconvenience for local residents and businesses as possible. Most of the affected roads will be closed for varying times between 8:00am and 1:00pm on Sunday 13th May.  Please refer to the enclosed map, and the table below to see which roads will be closed, and for how long.

If You Need To Get Out On Race Day

Please try to plan your journey in advance, as early as possible to avoid getting caught in the road closures.  You may need to leave a little earlier or later, or perhaps park your car on a nearby road that isn’t closed.   If you need help, please contact us by email:

Not Running But Want To Be Involved? We Need Volunteers!

We hope you will join us in embracing and celebrating this exciting new community event. If you would like to help us as a volunteer, we’d love to hear from you and would warmly welcome your support – You can find more information and sign up at

  • Sheena Bassett says:

Please ensure that the local taxi companies know about the Charlwood Road closures and advance warnings are put up – passengers arriving from the west tend to come via Charlwood and closing the Street will block off their access to the airport.

    • Iona says:

Thank you Sheena. That’s a great idea and we’ll definitely do that.

    • Iona says:

And just to confirm Sheena, we will have road closure information up approximately 4 weeks in advance of the event, to give everyone plenty of notice. Best wishes, Iona

  • R Wlaes says:

what about tesco emplyees at hydehurst lane, and all the vans doing deliveries

    • Iona says:

Thank you for getting in touch.

The southbound lane A23 is open – you will be able to come out and travel south down to A2011 and turn left towards M23. Hope that answers your question, though please do email us at if we can be of any more assistance.

      Best wishes

  • Kate says:

Does this mean that Langley Green residents are effectively locked in? Any suggestions?

  • Is this open to wheelchair users

    • Iona says:

      Hello Robert,

It is indeed – is there a particular distance that you would like to take part in?

      Best wishes

  • Laura says:

What about the people that live in Ifield road? It states it’s shut from 8.30 to 12.30 but I have to pop out a couple of times and be back at my house with kids? Will there be access for people living there?

  • SM says:

Given that all roads appear to be closed between 8.30 and 10.00 how are residents in the middle of the route supposed to get out?
