Latest Event Update


It is with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of Run Gatwick 2020/2021 which earlier this year was postponed to Sunday 9th May 2021.

We know this will be a further blow to our loyal running community, we honestly have tried so hard to make this event happen but we just can’t, we still face too many unknowns.

The COVID-19 landscape has been hugely challenging for months now and whilst we have the positive news of a vaccine, the next 6 months still remain very uncertain for all of us and in particular the events industry, making any kind of large scale event planning extremely hard.

A 6,000 person running event in early May 2021 still feels unsafe and irresponsible for our runners, volunteers and community at this time and we didn’t want to roll the date for a third time and keep you all hanging on yet again – your patience has been very much appreciated but we can’t push our luck at a time when there are still no guarantees. Therefore we have taken the hardest decision we’ve ever had to make and we are cancelling the 2020/2021 event completely to give you some clarity and certainty.

What does this mean for you?

As COVID-19 hit us so close to our original event date and the majority of the event planning had been completed, we had already taken delivery of your fabulous 2020 finisher t-shirt made from re-cycled plastic bottles, running buff and medal. We really want you to have these despite the event not taking place so all registered runners will receive these by early February 2021.
In addition, we want to be able to offer you as much flexibility as we can so all Half Marathon and 5k registered runners have two options to choose from relating to your registered place.

1. Get your 2020 Run Gatwick medal, running buff and t shirt AND defer your place to Run Gatwick 2022 or 2023 or one of our other events – Run Reigate or our cycling event Ride Reigate.
2. Get your 2020 Run Gatwick medal, running buff and t shirt AND instead of deferring your place opt to take our limited edition premium 1/4 zip running top instead, designed in bright yellow to stand out, be safe and run for better times.

You have until the Monday 4th January to notify us of your choice by clicking the button at the end of this message and confirming your details. Please refer to your email sent from Run Series for your booking reference.

After this date any runner responses outstanding will be automatically deferred to the Run Gatwick 2022 event.
Family Run registrations. Unfortunately we are unable to offer you a running top so please defer your place to an event of your choice: Run Gatwick 2022 or 2023 or one of our other events – Run Reigate or our cycling event Ride Reigate. Please note: we still need you to reconfirm your address and t shirt sizes (kids grow fast!) via the button below.

REFUNDS will regrettably NOT be offered in line with our existing terms and conditions. We appreciate these are exceptional circumstances and acknowledge very difficult times financially for everyone but we ask that you also appreciate we are a small business having suffered a huge impact this year with no government support. We are not asking for sympathy, just understanding that we are working so hard to be able to continue bringing you our fabulous events in the coming months and years.

A huge thank you in advance as always for your support and understanding. We continue to work hard to try and bring you some COVID safe smaller events for 2021 instead, so do stay with us as we navigate these new events until a time when we can get back to our usual award-winning races that we all know and love.

Coronavirus Update

We are sure you are all wondering if British Airways Run Gatwick scheduled to take place in just 8 weeks time is still going ahead. In light of the fast moving developments around COVID-19, regretfully we have taken the decision this weekend to postpone the event. Whilst we are extremely disappointed for us and all of you who have been training, our first priority is always to protect the health and well-being of our runners, volunteers, partners and the wider community and this is coupled with the need to not put additional pressure on our local and emergency services.

Our new date for the event will be Sunday 18th October and we absolutely intend to deliver the full British Airways Run Gatwick experience for everyone but as you can appreciate, the next few months are uncertain and therefore we will keep you updated regularly.

We are also aware that many other running events are also postponing to the Autumn period and British Airways Run Gatwick may clash with them and we know that many of you will have to choose between us and other great events. There’s nothing we can say other than we really hope you will still join us. Your entry will automatically be carried over to the new date so there is no action for you to take.

We know you may have some questions particularly around deferrals and transfers, so please bear with us over the coming days as we want to ensure a streamlined and consistent response to you all. Updates will be emailed directly and posted on the Run Gatwick website and our social media channels. Please could we ask you to wait for those updates rather than emailing or asking for updates via social media, this will really help our small team in these difficult circumstances.

Our running and local community are incredibly supportive and we’d like to thank you in advance for your patience, understanding and continued support whilst we work on new plans to deliver a fantastic event experience for everyone in October.
