Volunteer With Us

British Airways Run Gatwick

Volunteer - Sunday 8th May, 2022

If you are not able to run but still keen to be part of British Airways Run Gatwick, why not join our happy volunteer RaceCrew? Our volunteers are proudly supported by Gatwick Airport.

Behind the scenes we’re busy putting together a huge 300+ RaceCrew team to look after our runners and spectators both in our Event Village and along our exciting and scenic routes. All volunteers receive a free race place for our 2023 event, free t-shirt and breakfast on the day!

We have a new venue for Run Gatwick this year (Gatwick Aviation Museum) – this is an event that is now truly 100% aviation themed. Volunteering is an extremely rewarding experience and we’d love you to get involved.

We need hundreds of volunteers to help make this event something really special and there are LOTS of opportunities from setting up the Event Village on Saturday to looking after runners in the park on race morning, at the bag drop, the information point and on the finish line handing out medals, goodies and water.

Our Gatwick Airport RaceCrew also play an integral role along both routes motivating runners, providing clear direction and safety messages, handing out water, smiling, cheering and plenty more!

If you haven’t done it before please think about volunteering.  Not only will you get the feel-good factor from supporting local and national charities; volunteering is also a great opportunity to feel part of the event and meet like-minded people.

To enable us to manage the logistics of the day we need you to be available for around 6 hours from 7am on event day.

We would also love to hear from local sports clubs, community groups, Scouts, charities, schools and other organisations who could supply a team of RaceCrew to help us. In return, we will help you promote your organisation to our runners and their supporters leading up to, on race day and afterwards.

We encourage families, friends, sports and community groups, musicians, bands and artists to line the route and to provide as much support as you can – the more noise the better! Please remember that although we’d love your help, you need to be at least 18 years old.

Coronavirus Update

We are sure you are all wondering if British Airways Run Gatwick scheduled to take place in just 8 weeks time is still going ahead. In light of the fast moving developments around COVID-19, regretfully we have taken the decision this weekend to postpone the event. Whilst we are extremely disappointed for us and all of you who have been training, our first priority is always to protect the health and well-being of our runners, volunteers, partners and the wider community and this is coupled with the need to not put additional pressure on our local and emergency services.

Our new date for the event will be Sunday 18th October and we absolutely intend to deliver the full British Airways Run Gatwick experience for everyone but as you can appreciate, the next few months are uncertain and therefore we will keep you updated regularly.

We are also aware that many other running events are also postponing to the Autumn period and British Airways Run Gatwick may clash with them and we know that many of you will have to choose between us and other great events. There’s nothing we can say other than we really hope you will still join us. Your entry will automatically be carried over to the new date so there is no action for you to take.

We know you may have some questions particularly around deferrals and transfers, so please bear with us over the coming days as we want to ensure a streamlined and consistent response to you all. Updates will be emailed directly and posted on the Run Gatwick website and our social media channels. Please could we ask you to wait for those updates rather than emailing or asking for updates via social media, this will really help our small team in these difficult circumstances.

Our running and local community are incredibly supportive and we’d like to thank you in advance for your patience, understanding and continued support whilst we work on new plans to deliver a fantastic event experience for everyone in October.
